Until she died in 1985, Jada's grandmother, Marion Banfield, promoted Jada Pinkett's love for the arts. Even though money was tight, Grandma Marion enrolled Jada in gymnastics, ballet, and dance programs. Jada excelled in her extra curricular activities earning her a place at the North Carolina School of the arts and Baltimore School for the Arts. She left school before graduating after acquiring a main part on Bill Cosby's, A Different Weird, a sitcom following a group of black kids through their lives in college.
Jada's mother married lawyer, Warren Brown, then wed telecommunications executive, Paul Jones, in 1998. Jada served as her mother's maid of honor and noted that she thought more of her mother like a sister than a parent.
In 2003, Jada moved from the small screen to starting in blockbuster movies, such as The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Eventually she met her future, husband, Will Smith, while playing his girlfriend on the 90s sitcom that made him famous, Fresh Prince of Bel Air. The two parent three children, a son from Will Smith prior marriage, another son and a daughter, Willow Smith. Taking a break from acting, Jada showcased her vocal talents as the lead singer in a metal rock band, with a clothing line and the publication of a children's book in 2004 titled Girls Hold Up This World .
The Smith family, now produce her hit cable TV show Hawthorne, where she plays a nurse. She should know a little about the profession from being raised by her mother. Her youngest children have glowed in music and on the big school with such movies a The Karate Kid, that moved the family to China for 6 months while filming. |
