john mccain family The John McCain family earned a spot in history commanded by the Arizona Senator John S. McCain III, and his wife Cindy (Hensley)McCain. Early on, while Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton were battling for the Democratic favor, John Mc Cain III quickly became the front-runner for the Republican party very early on in the race for the White House. John McCain is a true patriot, and he has served our country with dedication throughout his life and his career.

His wife, Cindy is a generous and conscientious business woman, working most of her life within special education and charitable organizations. This year The McCain Family may attain the most desired position in the world. Senator McCain may be on his way to Washington's Oval Office.

John Sidney McCain III was born August 29, 1936 to John S McCain Jr., and Roberta (Wright) McCain at Coco Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone. His ancestry is Scottish, Irish, and English. His family has a very strong Naval background, as his father and grandfather both served in the United States Navy, each becoming four star admirals. The McCain family moved several times during his father's military career, and John, with his older sister Sandy and younger brother Joe, attended several different schools until the family settled in Virginia in 1951. He attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, and graduated in 1958.

After graduation, John followed family tradition by joining the United States Navy. He also married in 1965 to model Carol Shepp. He adopted her two children, Douglas and Andrew, before they welcomed their daughter Sidney. As a naval aviator, McCain flew ground attack aircraft from aircraft carriers. He was shot down and seriously wounded during Vietnam, and was held as a P.O.W. in Hanoi from 1967 until 1973 when he was released. His marriage to Carol Shepp eventually fell apart, and they divorced in 1980.

John promptly married schoolteacher Cindy Hensley of Phoenix, Arizona one month later. McCain retired from the Navy as Captain in 1981 and began to pursue his interest in politics. He was elected in 1982 to the House of Representatives, where he served two terms until election into the US Senate in 1986. He serves in Arizona as a senator to this day, while pursuing victory in the Presidential Election of 2008.

John McCain's Irish Ancestry
John McCain can trace his ancestral roots back to Ulster, from County Atrim, Ireland. In circa 1719, McCain clan emigrated from the town of Coleraine and arrived on the border of Pennsylvania and Maryland Colony. The oldest known American ancestor is Alexander McKean. Although McCain raised his children in Arizona, his most recent family roots are found in Mississippi. The lineage detailed in John McCain's autobiography titled, Faith of Our Fathers was slightly refuted by DNA testing done by two groups of McCains located in American and Canada.

John McCain's wife of over 28 years, Cindy (Hensley) McCain was born on May 20, 1954 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was the only child born to the affluent James and Marguerite "Smitty" Hensley. Her father, James was the founder of Hensley & Co., one of the largest Anheuser Busch distributors in the United States. Her mother was an oil heiress. Rejecting an offer to work for the family business, Hensley pursued a Masters degree at the University of Southern California in special education. She met her husband, Senator John McCain, at a military reception in Hawaii in 1979. The two wed the next year.

Cindy McCain is a philanthropist, participating in many events and organizations such as Operation Smile, The HALO Trust, and CARE, as well as numerous other charitable causes. She founded the American Voluntary Medical Team(AVMT) in 1988, which arranged for medical workers to work all around the world in disaster and war-ravaged areas to provide medical assistance for children.

Cindy McCain also has been chairman for Hensley & Co. since her father's passing in 2000. Together with her children, and one child from Senator McCain's first marriage, they own 68% of the family business. At this time she alternates between charity work, domestic duties at home in Arizona, and campaigning with her husband for the 2008 Presidential Election.

With Cindy, John had three more biological children, then adopted Bridget from an orphanage in Bangladesh. They have all managed success in their respective careers. Respectfully, John keeps his children's life out of his public discussions in the hopes of them have their own lives.

Douglas Shepp - Born : October 4, 1959  
Doug, one of the three children that Senator McCain raised with his first wife, is a commercial airline pilot for American Airlines.

Andrew Shepp - Born May 12, 1962  
Andy is working as Vice President for Hensley & Co.

Sidney McCain - Born September 2, 1966  
Sidney works in the music industry as the general manager of V2 records based in Toronto Canada.

Meghan McCain - Born October 23,1984  
Meghan now is working as a journalist. She publish a children's book with Simon & Schuster that details her fathers remarkable life through pictures. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund that helps the financial needs of disabled veterans. The most public of John's seven children, Meghan accompanies him on the 2008 presidential campaign trail, blogging about her adventures along the way.

John Sidney McCain IV(aka Jack) - Born : May 2, 1986  
Followed family tradition by serving in the US Navy.

James McCain - Born May 21, 1988  
Their second son James was born in 1988, and is now enlisted in the US Marine Corps who is stationed in Iraq during the war. John McCain purposefully does not enter his son's deployment in speeches or conversations regarding his foreign policy decisions.

Bridget McCain- Born July 21, 1991  
In 1991 the McCain's adopted an orphan brought to the United States from Mother Theresa's ophanage Bangladesh. They formally gave her the name, Bridget upon her adoption.
